What our students say about Building Blocks Learning System
Anderson Junior College
My Building Blocks experience was really an awesome one. In the beginning, I found it really hard to cope with Economics because of the vast information that I needed to remember. Mr. Dennis Ang was my savior.
His teaching pedagogy was direct to the point and answer to the question. He helped us to identify the key Economic concepts that were needed for the syllabus, and this immediately narrowed our focus on the important economic principles and allowed us to revise the subject more effectively. During his explanation of concepts, he would usually try to relate them to our day to day economic phenomenal in our lives. This made Economics more meaningful and practical, enabling us to better comprehend the concepts. He also shared with us the techniques on how to deal with Economics essays and case study questions. He would usually pick higher order thinking Economics questions for discussion in class. We learned to think more critically and still be able to apply our economic concepts back to the context of the questions. Furthermore, Battle sessions conducted by the centre aimed to equip us with good time management skills in answering different questions under time constraint. The practice of being in an exam setting provided us with more confidence to deal with anxiety and stress during real examinations.
Finally, Mr. Dennis Ang is a highly conscientious and caring teacher. Whenever students had doubts, he would surely attend to them and ensure that their doubts are clarified. In the midst of clarification, he would identify and correct every misunderstanding of the Economic concepts that we might have. Under his guidance, I managed to obtain an A grade for my H2 Economics. Mr. Dennis Ang really deserves every admiration from his students. I want to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to him and I hope that my excellent result would be the greatest gift for him.

When I received my A’ Level results this year, I was uncertain about all my subjects except for 1, Economics. True enough, I got an A for Economics. Classes at Building Blocks helped me to conceptualize economic concepts in such a realistic yet simple manner. A strong foundation is drilled from the beginning and Mr. Dennis Ang, my teacher taught me that Econs did not need much words but a few key words and a solid writing style to nail an answer. The Essay and Case Study packages boosted my confidence in tackling the Economics paper. Moreover, the Battle sessions thoroughly prepared me for the examinations as they trained me not to be complacent with my concepts but thoroughly critical of them. Indeed, this style of analysis brought me through the tricky questions that differentiate the A and B student. I am very grateful to the Team at Building Blocks for their smiles and support, especially during those tiring school nights. Thank you very much!

I want to thank Building Blocks for helping me build up a strong foundation in economics from the first day I started attending lessons. Besides reiterating the economic concepts taught in school, Building Blocks also provided us with notes and articles to further enhance our understanding of the topics. Most importantly, Building Blocks equipped us with the skill to tackle case studies and essays in a systematic manner. To sum up, one can be ensured that there will be no stone left unturned in your bid to get an A.

In JC1, my Economics results were consistently U/S, and only did just enough during my Promotional Exams in order to move on to second year. I continued to fare poorly in JC2, only managing to score 34 marks (another U) for my Economics Mid Year Exams.
I joined Building Blocks under Ms Giam's Infusion class in July 2010, where my results started to take a turn for the better. Eventually I managed an E for the Prelims & an A for A’ Levels. After every lesson, without fail, Ms Giam would be there to provide individual/group consultation & even mark/give feedback on work that I had done on my own. As such, slowly, but surely, I began to understand the concepts and write more impressive essays. Also, I relied upon the BB magical tools, which made studying so much easier! Hence, the huge jump from a U to an A in about 5 months, with a lot of hard work of course, was possible!

My learning experience at Building Blocks was great as the way lessons were conducted changed my impression of how tuition at tuition centers worked. I have always thought that lessons would be boring and everyone would just be copying notes or doing essays. However, at building blocks, the lessons are interactive and fun.
The classroom was often filled with laughter and joy. Ms Giam makes Economics so much easier to understand by using many examples to explain abstract concepts. Before I enrolled into Building Blocks, Economics to me was just about memorising and churning out notes during examinations. With Ms Giam's help, I was about to understand and apply the concepts into different situations.
After I joined the lessons, I often found myself relating economic concepts to my life. Economics, to me, is no longer just a dry 'A' level subject. Furthermore, Ms Giam is always willing to stay back or arrive early to give consultation. Other than just teaching us the concepts, Ms Giam also taught us how to structure our essays and case study skills to help us apply our concepts and do well for our exams. Lessons conducted at Building Blocks are all-rounded and do not only focus on the conceptual part of Economics.
I am very glad that my aunt introduced me to Building blocks as not only did my Economics grades improved tremendously, I have also made many friends there. In addition, the material provided by Building Blocks is also easy to read and understand. To me, reading Economics notes is no longer a chore, but it reinforces what I have learnt during Ms Giam's lessons. For the first time in my life, I really felt like I was studying Economics (Thanks to Building Blocks!). All in all, my learning journey at Building Blocks was a very pleasant one and I really enjoyed my lessons then.
